God planted the first garden as an earthly paradise for Adam and Eve, according to the beliefs of all 'People of the Book' - Jews, Christians and Muslims. The ancient Persian word for paradise, transliterated as pairidaeza, meant an enclosed park or garden.
Eden was not only the first garden, it was also the first garden to be lost. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating from the Tree of Knowledge, they were driven from the earthly paradise forever.
